One of the neatest things about watching Ragdoll kittens grow is seeing their color gradually appear. Ragdoll kittens are born white because they have a temperature-sensitive form of albinism. Their color begins developing after birth as the cooler areas of their bodies, such as the ears, face, legs, and tail, begin producing pigment. You can often start seeing little hints of color surprisingly early, but their appearance continues changing as they grow.
Their final look also depends on the color and pattern they inherited. Seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, bicolor, mitted, colorpoint, and other combinations can develop very differently, and their coats can continue deepening and changing well beyond kittenhood. It’s one of my favorite parts of raising them because that tiny white newborn can look completely different a few months later.
